Clear Results

By | Uncategorized

beforeandafterThe results are clear.  The advances in Invisalign have made it possible to achieve nearly any result with clear aligners.  The convenience of having removable brackets has appealed to patients for years, and now we’re able to offer the option to almost all treatment cases.  Let’s take a look at different diagnoses that we’re able to treat with Invisalign.

A crossbite occurs when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. This is detrimental because it can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease and bone loss.

An overbite occurs when the upper teeth bite over top the lower teeth. It can be due to genetics, bad oral hygiene, or an overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. This can lead to wear and tear on the lower jaw, gum irritation, and painful jaw problems.

An underbite can occur when the lower teeth overlap the front teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused when front teeth are missing. This can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars, which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful jaw and joint problems.

Open bite

An open bite often occurs when some teeth are unable to make physical contact with the opposing teeth for a normal bite. Most often caused by genetics or excessive thumb-sucking, an open bite can cause poor or painful chewing, and even speech impairment. It can also lead to greater issues like TMJ.

Gapped teeth

Gaps between teeth can occur with abnormal continued growth of the jawbone. Missing teeth can also cause the surrounding teeth to shift because of the extra space, creating spacing in your teeth. Spacing issues and gaps between teeth can lead to gum problems (due to lack of protection by the teeth), periodontal pockets and increased risk of periodontal disease.

Overcrowding occurs when there is simply not enough room in your mouth for permanent teeth to come in. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can get worse over time, and result in severely crooked teeth. This crowding can lead to plaque accumulation, tooth decay and an increased chance of gum disease.

As you can see, there are numerous reasons to need corrective treatment, and most of it can be done with the ease of Invisalign.  Clear aligners provide great results, while allowing the extra benefits of brushing, flossing, and exceptional oral hygiene.  Come see our Premier Invisalign Providers to see what Invisalign can do for you.

At McDonough Orthodontics we have identified 7 Core Values that guide our practice.  One of those values is Progressive.  For us it is important that we stay up to date on the latest research, techniques, services and equipment.  We talk about “practicing orthodontics the way it should be practiced in the year 2016 not 1970”.  That’s why in our office you won’t find a VCR, amber tinted glasses, doctors with side burns, or shag carpet.

One of the ways we’re honoring this value this month is by adding a 3D digital scanner called the iTero.

itero-scannerThis is an amazing piece of equipment that is saving our Invisalign patients the discomfort of taking traditional impressions by scanning their teeth and creating a computerized model.  For Dr. Dave and I, we get a more accurate impression that we transmit directly to Invisalign in seconds.  For our patients the experience should be quick and easy, their aligners will be in the office sooner, and the fit will be better.  Better fitting aligners give a better end result and we all love that.

So, if you’ve been thinking about improving your smile, come in today for a free evaluation and experience the difference of a Progressive orthodontic office — McDonough Orthodontics.

Finishing Touches

By | Uncategorized
beforeandafterIn 1998 the American Board of Orthodontics established an objective criteria for grading orthodontic finishes.  They estimate that nearly 50{8e02d1b35b10accd7532849d090322f7e8875177fc7651b27f1607537cb02cac} of orthodontic cases fall below their minimum standards.
In a recent article by Dr. Larry Tadlock DDS MS entitled “Finishing – Short of the Mark”, he wrote about the causes of poor orthodontic finishes and noted that studies have shown that the simple act of systematically reviewing finished orthodontic cases improved results.
At McDonough Orthodontics we take this to heart.  Our clinical team is trained to the standards of the American Board of Orthodontics.  To further reinforce the importance of a great orthodontic finish we review finished cases each month with the team and critically evaluate the results and the process.  This training holds the doctors accountable and teaches the team the importance of finishing with a beautiful smile and a healthy bite.
We make the extra effort to not only give patients a better result but to create the best clinical team possible and we think our patients can tell.

Braces to Match Your Personality!

By | Braces

We know that each one of our patients has a unique personality, and we want your braces to match your own style!  Whether you want clear, flashy, low-key, or vibrant, we have an appliance for you.

We all are very familiar with silver brackets, the standard of orthodontics.  To date, they are still the most popular among patients.  You can change up your style and color with your choice of elastics to keep them fun and creative!

Gold has never been more popular than it is now.  Dental braces have come a long way in modern age.  Gold braces are actually made of stainless steel, just like traditional braces.  They just happen to be overlaid in gold! That means you can enjoy all the benefits of standard metal braces without the expense of a solid gold smile.  It’s like jewelry for teeth!

Popular among adult patients, ceramic brackets offer a less aggressive look than traditional braces.  You can choose between clear elastic ties or white metal ties to hold the braces in place.
